    Adult Tennis Lessons in Indianapolis

    $26 group / $80 private

Adult tennis is a fundamentally different sport than junior tennis — you already have habits, a schedule, and a body that will tell you when it needs a longer warm-up. Every adult lesson is coached with that reality in mind. That means real cardio pacing, honest expectations about how long a technical change takes to feel natural, and a coaching style that respects the fact that you are choosing to spend your limited free time on this.

Bruce has coached hundreds of adults across a full spectrum: former college players getting back after 20 years, weekend social players trying to break out of a plateau, and USTA league captains preparing an entire lineup for a season. The common thread is that adult lessons work best when the coach treats you like an adult — direct feedback, clear timelines, and no wasted hours on drills that do not transfer.

    For first-time adult beginners

You will hit real shots on a real court in your first lesson — no wall drills for an hour. We shrink the court, feed short, and build the swing on top of contact you can already make. Most adult beginners are rallying full-court by lesson six, serving a real second serve by lesson ten, and playing practice sets by month three. The pace is faster than you might expect because the drills are engineered around adult motor learning, not childhood repetition.

For adults returning to the game

The strokes come back fast; the movement takes longer. If you played in high school or college and are returning after years away, expect the first two or three lessons to focus heavily on footwork, split-step timing, and match-condition breathing more than pure stroke work. The swing is largely still there — what has faded is the ability to get to the right place at the right time.

    For USTA league adults

League play rewards patterns and calm decision-making more than perfect technique. Sessions blend targeted stroke fixes (usually one specific problem — the second serve, the backhand return, the volley under pressure) with match-scenario play built around the actual patterns you see in league. Preseason four-lesson blocks are the most popular format.

    Adult group clinics

The adult group clinic runs weekly at $26 per session, capped at six players and skill-grouped so you play with people at your level. Group is the most affordable format and often the most fun — you build a small circle of playing partners you can call for a hit outside of lessons.

    Balancing lessons with life

Most adults land in a rhythm of one private lesson per week plus one group session or league night. That is enough volume to actually improve without turning tennis into a second job. Evenings and weekend mornings are the busiest slots — book two weeks out to lock in a consistent time.
