    Tennis Lessons in Indianapolis, IN

    Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana

Indianapolis has one of the deepest tennis communities in the Midwest, and Coach Bruce Hartrich has been part of it since 1994. Lessons run out of the south side and serve players from every township of Marion County plus the surrounding suburbs.

    A city built for tennis

Between IHSAA high-school programs, the USTA Midwest section, park-district leagues, and a strong club-tennis scene, Indianapolis players have year-round competition. That means the coaching bar is higher here than it is in most Midwest markets — students who take lessons are usually preparing for match play, tournaments, or a specific team tryout, not just hitting for fun.

The Indy Tennis Pro brand was built around that reality. Every lesson leaves the court with a written focus, a stat to track, and a homework drill you can actually use between sessions.

    Who trains here

The Indianapolis student roster ranges from five-year-olds picking up their first foam-ball racquet to nationally ranked juniors and USTA 4.5+ adult players. Weeknight adult group sessions attract league captains from clubs across Marion County, while Saturday junior clinics pull families from every township.

A large portion of the student base plays for Perry Meridian, Southport, Roncalli, Cathedral, Bishop Chatard, Park Tudor, and other IHSAA programs — with Coach Bruce often coordinating with school coaches during high-school season so lessons complement, rather than conflict with, team practice.

    Court access and travel

Home courts sit at Southport High School and Perry Meridian High School — both public outdoor complexes with lighting and reliable surfaces. Downtown and northside families typically drive 15–25 minutes on I-65 or Meridian Street to reach lessons; parking is free at both venues.

For winter, indoor sessions are arranged through partner facilities on a rolling basis. Ask about winter availability when you inquire — indoor slots move quickly November through March.

What a first lesson looks like

Every new Indianapolis student starts with a short intake conversation — goals, playing history, injuries, tournament calendar — followed by an on-court evaluation. By the end of that first session you will have three specific technical or tactical priorities and a plan for how many lessons per month you actually need.

The goal is not to sell more lessons than you need. Some students book weekly; others do a monthly tune-up between college matches. The plan follows the player.
